There have been calls today for our Winchester City Council Mayor, Councillor Patrick Cunningham to take over as one of the judges on Strictly Come Dancing after his spectacular performance at the Winchester Go LD AGM Strictly Go LD show.
As part of Strictly Go LD members of the charity performed dance routines judged by a panel of experts, all on zoom. Judge No 3, the Mayor, stood out as the most informed.
The AGM was split between the formal presentation of reports, member led interviews and the Strictly show.
As well as his judging duties, Cllr Cunningham gave a heart-warming speech of congratulations to the charity for receiving a Local Heroes award.
“This whole exercise has reinforced my faith in the truly special people of the Winchester district and underscores my hope for a strong recovery as we rebuild – our community resilience will help us through. I score Winchester Go LD a perfect 10!”
Kevin Stevens, Chair of Winchester Go LD added “Our AGM is partly formal and partly a showcase of what our members can and do achieve. We are delighted that over 70 members, families and supporters joined us on Zoom to celebrate this year’s achievements. You think it’s not going to be the same as we are in a different environment, but the members’ Strictly Show was absolutely superb. I think anyone who joined would have got a feel for who we are, what we’re about and what we do. The energy, the laughs and the fun was incredible. Thank you to Mr Mayor for taking on the role as judge with such fun and such vigour.”
“We support our members to thrive. To understand what they may want to do in the future and help set out a pathway. We provide information and signposting, identifying needs and speaking out for members’ interests. We also provide activities to build skills and promote a healthy lifestyle.”
Winchester Go LD are continuing to work throughout the winter period offering support and online activities for adults with learning disabilities in the Winchester district.
