Anna’s Lockdown Success Story

The Insane Bolt - Anna’s lockdown success story

During Lockdown Anna has developed a healthy routine, discovered a new love of running and she has become a regular member at Winchester Go LD’s Saturday Circuits on line. She is delighted her fitness has increased and her capacity to run has now extended to over 9 minutes. Anna not only feels better, but she has lost weight and is looking healthier.
Anna who is Autistic, moved back to live with her parents at the start of lockdown. As a regular member of Winchester Go LD, a charity which support adults with learning disabilities, Anna wanted to join the 2.6 Challenge to fundraise for the charity.

And so began the Insane Bolt!

The challenge was to run from her home at The Old Plough in North End, around the grass triangle in the village and back again – a distance of about 400 yards. Having struggled to run more than 10 paces initially she trained every day for five weeks and through sheer determination slowly built up sufficient stamina to overcome her physical disabilities and complete the 400 yard circuit in the bright sunshine on 25th May.

The event took on a life of its own. The fabulous ‘socially distanced’ support from the local community, and friends from the Winchester Fusion Choir (of which Anna is a member) was a tremendous boost for Anna and made for a very joyful occasion which hopefully relieved some of the ‘lockdown gloom’.

Anna broke her own record of 4 minutes 20 and came in at 3 minutes 20 on the day.

The fundraising achievement has been phenomenal with over £7000 raised. Winchester Go LD would like to thank to Anna and everyone who has supported her challenge.

Anna is also a keen artist and been selling her own Sunflowers cards in aid of the charity. They have been so successful she has sold out!
As Anna says “there are good days and there are bad days”. “I am missing my sense of routine, meeting with friends face to face and I want to sing with the Fusion Choir again soon. The good things are seeing everyone on zoom, going running with my dad and talking to friends on the phone.”

Winchester Go LD are now running 5 groups every week on zoom – Monday Afternoon Tea, Tuesday Lunch Club, Wednesday Tai Chi, Friday Funky Lunch and Saturday Low Level Circuits.
