Many medals for the most fantastic Chair of the decade!

Thank you to everyone for joining our AGM in November.

We were thrilled that 78 people attended to help us celebrate another year.

The evening included a big thank you to Winchester Go LD’s incredible Chair, Kevin Stevens, who after dedicating 10 years to the charity is stepping down from the board of Trustees.  Kevin’s legacy includes the 2012 introduction of  Paralympic Personal Bests, co-organised with Winchester City Council.  In tribute, members of Winchester Go LD made dozens of medals which they awarded Kevin along with his own Personal Best trophy.

The Sign with Steve group met for the first time in person and gave an amazing first live performance.  The Makaton signing choir, launched in April 2021, is Friday at 7pm on zoom and a highlight of the week.   Steve said “It was an emotional night for me seeing everyone face to face after over 7 months on Zoom.”

We’d like to share our annual report with you

outlining the success and achievements of the last year.

“We are proud of the positive difference we make to our members’ lives, and we are acutely aware of the increased demand for support from this vulnerable group in our community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic…

“During lockdown, we moved all our group work to Zoom video calls. It is incredible how so many of our members have learned and adapted to communicating on Zoom. …. 48 of our members regularly engaged in one or more of our online activities. At the peak of pandemic, our groups all became busier as our members’ normal day services were restricted. Weekly group sizes grew to an average of 20-25 participants.”

We are delighted to welcome our new Trustees:

Mary Needham

Mary runs Munch CIC.  She is a registered public health nutritionist and has several year’s experience developing and delivering healthy cooking interventions in schools and community settings.  Mary has worked with Winchester Go LD on several cookery and wellbeing projects both in person and on zoom.

Shelley Talbot

Shelley’s background is working in the charity sector and learning disabilities.  She started volunteering with us in February 2019 and after joining one Go Social Film and Dance night of Greece the Musical she was hooked!  Since lockdown Shelley has been our Zoom Hostess extraordinaire, manning the controls on Thursday Fit Class and supporting our exercise instructors.

Marjon Zoon

Marjon has been an incredible volunteer with Winchester Go LD.   Joining at the start of the pandemic, she supports so many Winchester Go LD members with regular Walk and Talks.  This continues to be of real benefit and everyone loves Marjon’s company.
