Christmas Card project 2020

Every year Winchester Go LD members demonstrate their huge creative talent and ability to work as a team to produce a Christmas card which is sold to raise funds and awareness about the charity.

This year we gave and sent out small packs of paint, card, and collage materials to 25 members at home.   With the support of artist, Julia Gardner, everyone produced a Snowman and Christmas Tree picture during two sessions on Zoom.  The pictures have been collected and pieced together as a final group collage.

Our members are creative, colourful, fun loving and outgoing – we know that you’ll agree that the art reflects these qualities.

We are selling our cards, tags and wrapping paper at local fundraising events and through our friends, families and supporters.

For those who don’t send Christmas cards by post, we will produce a Christmas e-card to send by email with a recommended donation of £1 per e-card.

Money generated from card, tag and wrapping paper sales will support the on going year on year sustainability of the project, raise awareness and provide valuable revenue for our charity.

Watch a video of the live painting session on Facebook here.

How you can help us

Our committee members and volunteers contribute their time and resources to Winchester Go LD across a wide range of activities.

Fundraising

We would also welcome your involvement in fundraising for the charity.   Would you like to organise a sponsored event?   Click here to visit our JustGiving Fundraising site.

As a charity fundraising is vitally important to us.   We rely on donations, grants and fundraising to meet the cost of our services.

Your donation can help us to provide:

£10 one Afternoon Tea session – usually 10 – 15 members attend each session

£50 weekly Circuits Sessional Workers – usually 20 members attend each session

£250 for each Person Centred Plan – 1:1 staff time to complete a plan over 6 weeks

£500 for a 6 week training course for 8 members

Volunteers

  • Do you love people and would you like to work with adults with learning disabilities?
  • Are you retired or simply have spare time on your hands?
  • Could you give us one or two hours a week?
  • Do you live in Winchester or the surrounding areas?

If the answer is yes to any of the above Winchester Go LD would love to hear from you.  We are looking for volunteers to help with our social groups and to meet members 1:1 as part of our Buddy Scheme.  Or maybe you have technical or business skills to volunteer.

We are very grateful to all our amazing and generous volunteers.

Thank you to our current team which include Chris, Alice, Charmian, Martin, Adam, Shelley and Suzanne as well as  Taya, Emmaline and Issie from Winchester University.

Winchester College students support our lunch group activity on Tuesday at the Discovery Centre pre and post lockdown.

Peter Symonds students help members at Low Level Circuits on Saturday and Fit Class on Thursday evening.

Employers

Are you an employer looking for staff?

  • You may be interested to know that research from the Joseph Rowntree Trust shows that people with learning disabilities are generally reliable, more likely to stay with one employer for a long time and tend to take less time off
  • Our members have a variety of skills and experience and we are always looking for more temporary or full-time employment opportunities.
